While most, and especially the scientific community, can list a half dozen reasons why the Mayan calendar ends on 12.21.12, nowhere can you find the interpretation that the world is coming to an end, just that the world as we know it is to change. Hey, sign me up. I’m ready for something much greater. How about a golden age. Maybe? Why not!

The Norse men, the Hopi Indians five suns, the Mayan nine underworlds, and many other ancient cultures have myths that amazingly link to the date December 21, 2012. How does that happen? I’ve mentioned the nine underworlds, and the five suns before, but let’s add to the list the Hindu ages. Of course with so many gods, how can one focus in on any one age?

Most interpretations of Hindu scriptures believe that earth is currently in Kali Yuga age. Not all, but most. Hindus believe that human civilization degenerates spiritually throughout the Kali Yuga: it is mostly referred to as the Dark Age, mainly because people are the furthest possible from God. Makes sense to me and I think even the Hebrew prophet, Jeremiah has something to say about that.

The Kali Yuga age began on February 18th, 3102 BCE. And while there are differing thoughts as to when it ends (can you believe that!), Sri Kalki Bhagavan agrees with the Mayan 12.21.12 date for it to end. Say what, say who? You mean you’ve not heard of the tenth and final avatar of Vishnu who is leading us into a new cosmic consciousness!

Sri Amma Bhagavan founded and developed the Golden Age Foundation and the Oneness University that is supported by more than a 100 million people worldwide! Sri Amma Bhagavan are a couple, but they are one single consciousness in two bodies. They are like the spirit, all pervading yet abiding in the deepest recesses of one’s Being.

Kalki has also given credence to the Venus transit which occurs as a double visitation eight years apart, but only once in about every 125 years or so. The latest double occurence was June 8, 2004 and the follow up visit is June 5, 2012. Shortly thereafter the world will begin to experience a major shift in consciousness- whatever that may mean.

While Kalki doesn’t have specific descriptions of that, it will end the dark age of Kali Yuga and usher in a golden age.

Can all of these ancient and current culture be wrong? Are we following some devious Pied Piper?

I don’t think so!

One has to give some thought as to why the Mayans were so interested, obsessive, over the concept of time. Hey, there were no tough schedules to meet, no 8:30 am morning staff meetings, not even a plane to catch. So, what’s up with the obsession with time? Maybe there’s a clue in Hurricane Ike. 

I could help but be struck with the pitch dark world that I lived in called Houston, Texas. On Saturday night, September 13th as I drove around my neighborhood (before the curfew) not seeing one light. It was a strange and weird feeling. To add to the mystery, there was a full moon.

As we moved into the third night without electricity, I began to get some sense of what life might be like living with the sun and moon. One spent the day doing daylight things and then one prepared for night, with no light, save a candle or flashlight. They dind’t have generators either. It was back to nature living- of a sort.

As Lawrence Joseph wrote, “The role of the calendar in Mayan life with the awareness of cyclicity in the movement of celestial bodies and the evolution of mathematical skills by which they could manipulate the numbers derived from from those calenderal cycles.” In other words, it’s what they had time for as much as anything.

But, I sense a more meaningful spiritual encounter as well. Surely they had help beyond their intellectual skill so that they could see the dark rift and interpret things that we’re only now understnading with the air of telescopes out there in space. What they knew is beyond extra time at night. WHat they knew came from somewhere beyond and someplace deep within as well.

Why don’t we go there….before 2012!

We hear much these days about  planetary realignment, a pole shift, the beginning of a new age, even the end of the world, predictions of events that will allegedly coincide with the conclusion of the Mayan “long count” calendar–December 21, 2012. 

We’ve heard this sort of thing before.  The approach of the year 2000–Y2K–gave rise to a flood of fears and predictions.  Would computer clocks  be able to change  to 2000?  Good God, what if they couldn’t?!  (As it happened, they could.)  Inevitably, the year 2000 inspired predictions of the end of the world and/or the second coming of Christ.  This was not the first year of a new millennium, by the way:  Because there was no Year Zero, 2001–not 2000– was the first year of the 21st century.  Either way, there was no second coming, no end of the world. 

Still, people can be hard to dissuade.  In 1831, William Miller, a farmer and preacher from upstate New York, began proclaiming that the prophecies of Revelation were imminent.  Miller gained quite a large following.  In 1840 he announced that Christ would return sometime between March 21, 1843 and March 21, 1844.  Finally, March 21, 1844 arrived. But Jesus didn’t.  This was disconcerting to Miller’s followers, especially to the thousands of them who had given all their belongings away, thinking they had no further use for them.  (1)

Miller pondered the matter, concluded that he had miscalculated, and revised the date to April 18.  On that date, once again, nothing happened.  But the movement was not finished.  Samuel S. Snow, at a camp -meeting the following August in Exeter, New Hampshire, gave his own take on the situation and asserted that the real date for the Big Event was October 22, 1844.  More than 100,000  Millerites,  many  dressed in white robes, waited expectantly  on hills and housetops.  Guess what happened. 

The result of their misguided faith became known as the Great Disappointment of 1844.  (2)

In addition to that event, a certain religious group has erroneously predicted the imminent end of the “system of things” no fewer than nine times since the 19th century:  in 1874, 1878, 1881, 1910, 1914, 1918, 1925, 1975, and 1984.  (3)

Even scientists have been known to make wacko predictions.  Vladimir Sobolyovhas analyzed prophecies made by Nostradamus, various Russian saints, and others and announced in 1997 that within two years the earth’s axis would tilt by about thirty degrees.  Scandinavia and Britain would end up under water.  And the scenario doesn’t end there.   Evil space aliens, too,  play a role in Sobolyovhas’ declarations, but let’s not even get into that part.  Suffice it to say that  not everyone can be blessed with lucidity.  (3)

And the claims about  2012?  According to David Morrison, a senior scientist at NASA, “There is no planetary alignment in December 2012.  As to ‘alignment with the center of the Milky Way,’ that is a meaningless phrase.  It may sound scientific, but it is devoid of content.  To put it bluntly, these claims…of alignments and catastrophe in December 2012 are lies.”  (4)  (5)

So if you plan to spend The Big Day on a housetop, you might want to bring along some crossword puzzles,  or an Agatha Christie novel.

The Mayan calendar does end on December 21, 2012; however, that doesn’t mean it will be the end of the world or that we’re facing an apocalypse. The calendar just ends there. So, could we begin again in some new phase starting December 22nd? But people say that the world is going to hell in a hand basket. And that’s just the reason I feel we will not!

Few people have heard Carl Jung’s concept- enantiodromia, let alone being able to pronounce it.

Enantiodromia is a concept which basically means that the superabundance of any one force will ultimately force it’s opposite. Thus, when people see the world heading towards a major catastrophe because of a dozen overwhelming reasons, I say that’s the right time for something GOOD to happen. A time for God to happen!

Of course it’s the God IN US that will happen. I don’t believe in the Santa Claus any more, not do I believe there is a God “out there” somewhere who is going to come and rescue us. That God is transcendent, yes. But that He is immanent, YES!

Enantiodromia literally means (for my “literalist” fans) mens running counter to!

After Republicans have ruled and ruined the government and society long enough, people switch to the Demcocratic party (though they mess it up just as well). After a feast comes a famine: though Wall Street tries to prevent such from happening. After twenty six record setting hurricanes, we have the fewest. After the hottest and driest of summers, we have one of the most mild and wet summers.

It’s nature’s way of maintaining balance.

So, for me, the run up to 2012 have more than enough dastardly dilemmas facing us- more than enough. Global warming is only the poster child for such. But, it is in the face of such massive probabilities, that I feel we’ll see the reverse. The advent of homo illuminous maybe? A fabulous leap in consciousness. And a world order that’s just the opposite of global catastrophe.

After all that IS our destiny!

As we look into the near future, who is best suited to lead us? Should we be following the skeptical scientists who don’t believe anything that can’t be proven? Or, do we follow the dogmatism of organized religion which is intolerant of any other religious ideas that don’t square with their doctrine. Do we follow the skeptics or the intolerant? Must we choose?

I’m not dividing this baby up- cutting it into.

I’m going to saddle up both horses and risae them into the future. As we head to what might or might not be on the horizon for the Mayan calendar year of 2012, I want both camps to come together: work together. Science can tell us the HOW, but only religion call tell us the WHY.

Surely scientists can see that there is more to life than just discovering laws of quantum physics. Surely they see that we share this planet with one another in more than just a neuro-physiological epiphenomenon (a secondary phenomenon that occurs alongside a primary phenomenon).

And hopefully the passionate adherents of the many diverse religions can agree to disagree. Mitt Romney addressed the religious intolerance issue just today. So what if the Mormons don’t have the same beliefs as the Baptists who don’t have the same beliefs of Catholics, and so on.

The dogmatic theology of many religions in the world today is shared by the dogmatic beliefs of many in the scientific community as well. And neither is serving us or the Creator very well at all. Don’t you think it’s about time that we all got together and professed our ignorance and prejudices, and vowed to remove them from our lives?

What a world that would be!

Those unfortunate few who chose to stay in the path of Super Hurricane Wilma, will wreak the full punch of a ?Cat Five? Hurricane. One thing we have not seen in this 2005 Hurricane Season is a Hurricane make landfall with the full force of a Hurricane Category Five. Hurricane Wilma is the most powerful and some say beautiful from metrological standpoint ever in the history of Western World Weather Records. The winds at the point of landfall will be in excess of 145 mph and some are calling the Yucatan Peninsula a mere ?Speed Bump? for this massive storm and still growing Hurricane Wilma.

Flooding waters are guaranteed indeed, in fact besides the storm surge of 15-20 feet and the 15-20 inches of torrential rains in a 36-hour period will do most of the damage. But make no mistake winds at 145 mph do quite a bit of damage in their own right. How many people will Wilma kill or drown, during her short 36-hour vacation stop over in Cozumel and Cancun. Some estimate that Super Hurricane Wilma with an eye of 35-miles across will take a chunk out of the reality of the Mayan Mexican Rivera. One meteorologist said maybe the Mayan Calendar missed it by a few years maybe it was not 2012 but rather October of 2006? Think on this.

Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (1881-1955) coined the phrase “omega point”. It was his term that describes what I think the years leading to the Mayan calendar date of 2012 is all about. Not that it will happen exactly on December 21, 2012 at 11:11pm, but that we’re moving into such a consciousness! Exciting times are ahead for those who embrace what “The Consciousness” of which we are a part, is doing.

The Omega Point was Teilhard’s maximum level of consciousness to which the universe seems to be heading. The universe evolves towards more complex states, while at the same time more conscious states. For some reason this is hard for people to grasp: especially the fundamentalists in the scientific and religious communities.

For Teilhard, this is the true theory of evolution, and he called it the Law of Complexity/Consciousness. Matter becomes more and more complex throughout time. Part of the reason is that thought alters matter and matter alters thought. Chew on that for a minute.

And in so doing we are all raised to higher consciousness states. Why does the religious crowd have such a difficulty with that?

For Teilhard, this is only possible if a higher form of consciousness is “drawing” the universe to itself. Now we get into the argument over what to name this “Consciousness”. If I call IT a “He”, you’ll get a reference point different than if I called IT a “She”, or just an “It”. Need we do this?

It is impossible that lower consciousness states can give rise to higher conscious states. So, Teilhard put for the “Omega Point” as the critical point of consciousness which draws the universe towards higher states of consciousness, as observed in the Law of Complexity & Consciousness.

Next week, the movie, I AM- Legend comes out. We’ll have fun with that one too!

We are a long way from 2012, but Will Smith got a record number of people to the movie theatre this past weekend to see his new flick, I Am Legend. In this end of the world (as we know it) saga the world has been nearly wiped out by a virus; however, Will Smith finds a cure and saves the world from the Dec. 21, 2012 catastrophe on Sept. 9, 2012!

I’m afraid where the world is headed isn’t quite as spectacular nor that easy of a problem to solve. Just look at some of the predictions that are being made: and many by top-flight scientists too!

(1) Is there is brown dwarf, known variously as Planet X or Nibiru, our there (discovered by NASA in 1994) that is in an elliptical course that will bring it too close to us in 2012?

(2) Does the Mayan calendar, written many centuries ago, predict the end of the world on December 21, 2012, the end of time, or the beginning of some new time?

(3) Will the increased sun spot activity during it’s regular cycles of 11 years, and the long view of 178 year cycle, create havoc and destruction of unprecedented nature when 2012 arrives?

(4) Is collapse of the Earth’s magnetic field, which guards our planet and life on course for such a reduction that come 2012 there will be a reversal of poles? Magnetic reversals have happened 171 times in the last 76 million years: 14 in the last 4.5 million years. From the peak magnetic intensity of 2,000 years ago, the magnetic values have dropped 38%: 7% in the last 100 years. Will 2012 be the tipping point?

(5) Will the passing through the galactic plane, an event that happens only every 26,000 years; otherwise known as the galactic shift. The black hole that holds our galaxy together has the earth and

sun in alignment, creating unknown climate and weather catastrophes. That crossing just so happens to occur in 2012. Obviously as we get closer to the event, unusual physical eruptions will occur. No need to wait until 2012 to figure out if this one is true or not.

Who has a cure for all that? Or will any of those scenarios materialize?

At least it makes life interesting for the next five years.

There are so many things that could go wrong between now and 2012, but mainly 2012, and more specifically December of 2012. Would you believe December 21, 2012? Primarily the specific date comes from the Mayan long count calendar also known as Winaq May Kin which covers some 5,200 Mayan years or 5,125 Gregorian years. But, did the Mayans know what we know today about the bad mood that our Sun seems to be in?

The sun seems to be developing a severe case of acne and it’s not too happy about that. And if the Sun is in a foul mood, you can count on we her on planet earth hearing about it. While the Sun is some 93,000,000 miles away (thankfully), we feel the effects of any bad days it may be in. When such happens, scientist Roger Remy calls such mood breakdowns as “making mayonnaise”, or having eaten some bad mayonnaise. Whatever!

Let me tell you what we do know- scientifically.

1-The sun has an eleven year cycle.

2-Galileo was the first person to tell us this when he invented the telescope in 1610.

3-The cycle has a low end acne break out on the face or surface and a high end.

4-Bad things happen when the high end of activity breaks out and the acne boils fester big time!.

5-Since 1940 the festering peaks or outbreaks have become more severe.

6-In this current cycle which was to be in it’s low activity in 2005, the Sun went nuts!

So, the question we should ask ourselves as rational people is will we see something really bad come 2012 when the Sun is at it’s worst behavior? I mean as little as 0.5% increase in the Suns energy would take out all of our satellites and where would we be without our Blackberry? How much firepower advantage would our army have with “unguided missiles”?

Case in point. At the end of 2004, when the Sun was to be getting some acne relief, it threw a hissy-fit, belching out massive amounts of radiation. On December 30th a tsunami killed hundreds of thousands of people in the Indian Ocean. Things settled down as it should be until late summer when once again, radio-active blemishes appeared suddenly, just ahead of Katrina, Rita, and Wilma. Coincidence?

How about the massive solar radiation storm in March 1989 that took out the Hydro-Quebec power grid putting more than 6,000,000 Canadians in the dark? Coincidence? All this makes the Al Gore concept of Global Warming seem a bit trivial doesn’t it!

Scientists from all over the world have confirmed that the Sun has been more turbulent in the past 50 years (and increasingly so) than it has for at least the last 11,000 years. I wonder how they know that! And those same scientists say that the Sun will reach it’s peak eleven year cycle in 2012. Thee you go. More bad news! But, Grandma Chandra sees this as a time when man’s consciousness will be increased and we will somehow be able to spiritually-consciously alter the state of the universe.

Works for me. Let’s get on with it!

I believe that there is “something” to the 2012 craze. Too many ancient civilizations for too long have spoken and written about it. So what is this “something”? It could be MANY somethings as I have written about and I am sure will add to over the next three plus years. But what about the scientific REALITIES….possibilities?

A new study from the National Academy of Sciences outlines grim possibilities on Earth for a worst-case scenario solar storm. Damage to power grid systems could be catastrophic, the scientists conclude, with effects leading to a potential loss of governmental control of the situation. The prediction is based in part on a major solar storm in 1859 that caused telegraph wires to short out in the United States and Europe, igniting widespread fires.

In others words, this has happened before! 

It was perhaps the worst in the past 200 years, according to the new study, and with the advent of modern power grids and satellites, much more is at risk.  “A contemporary repetition of the (1859) event would cause significantly more extensive (and possibly catastrophic) social and economic disruptions,” the researchers conclude.

When the sun is in the active phase of its 11-year cycle, it can unleash powerful magnetic storms that disable satellites, threaten astronaut safety, and even disrupt communication systems on Earth. For real! This has nothing to do with 2012! 

The worst storms can knock out power grids by inducing currents that melt transformers.

Modern power grids are so interconnected that a big space storm (the type expected to occur about once a century) could cause a cascade of failures that would sweep across the United States, cutting power to 130 million people or more in this country alone, the new report concludes.

Such widespread power outages, though expected to be a rare possibility, would affect other vital systems. And guess what America is most vulnerable to? Yep, there goes the military supremacy, and who knows what would follow after that. Who wants to go there anyway.

That the next peak active phase of the suns cycle occurs in 2012 is just happenstance of course.  NOT!
